Steinway Pianos

Steinway Pianos

Steinway Pianos have been in existence since 1853. The makers of Steinway and Sons Pianos have started out in New York City then later expanded to Hamburg, Germany in 1880. Modernizations were incorporated in both companies as new technology were invented but surprisingly, a Steinway Piano is still handcrafted even if such a process takes almost a year to be completed.

Handcrafting proved to be a good decision as even old Steinway Pianos are still of good quality and sound. Rebuilt Steinway Pianos with special history attached to them are being sold as Legendary Collections. Also, pianos created from rare wood belong to the Crown Jewel Collection.

Each of the factories of Steinway Pianos manufactures 7 and 2 models of grand pianos and upright pianos, respectively. Some grand piano models are made in both factories including the S-155 and O180. However, the Professional Models 1098 and K-52 are manufactured only in New York while the V-125 and K-132 are made in Hamburg.

A lot of Steinway Grand Pianos still grace the halls of cultural centers and music auditoriums. Also, it can be noted that although the quality of Steinway Pianos made from the two factories are almost the same, there are a lot of pianists who strongly prefer either model. Perhaps some of them might have liked the rounded edges and glossy finish of the Hamburg models while others prefer the square edges and satin finish of the American piano models.
